Neurodiversity is the understanding that people's brains work in different ways, and that these differences are natural and valuable. Just like everyone has unique personalities, each brain has its own strengths, challenges, and ways of thinking. Neurodiversity celebrates these differences and encourages acceptance and understanding of all kinds of minds.
What does neurodivergent mean?
Neurodivergent describes people whose brains work differently from what’s often considered typical. This includes autism, ADHD, dyslexia, and other ways of thinking and experiencing the world. Neurodivergence is part of what makes each person unique, bringing a mix of strengths and challenges.
What does neurodiversity affirming mean?
Neurodiversity affirming means embracing and celebrating the unique ways that different brains work. It’s about meeting individuals where they are and supporting them to thrive, rather than trying to make them fit a “typical” mould. This approach focuses on valuing strengths, understanding challenges, and creating spaces where all kinds of minds are welcomed and celebrated.
